I'm glad you asked, it's a reasonable question. GameRanger actually pre-dates all of those.
Since we're really talking about WBC3 here:
From Xfire's Games page: WBC3: Does not support lobbies. Does not support one-click join. Does not support in-game messaging. Does not support in-game screenshots. Does not support in-game movie capture. What does that leave? It tracks how long you have the game running.. nice.
ASE: Does not exist anymore. Hasn't ever supported WBC3 in any capacity, or any strategy game for that matter.
GSA: Does not support WBC3 at all.
That's probably not what you really wanted to know though. There are many differences. One of the biggest advantages is that using GameRanger, you generally don't have to do any port-forwarding or router configuration. All the games just work, which is how it should be really. None of the others made any effort in this direction.
Anyway, give it a try, you might actually like it.
