Get Into Games
I've just returned back from a day in Ballarat at their "Get into Games" event. Ballarat is a city about 90 minutes drive west of Melbourne.
We had a fantastic time at the event. Nobody should ever make the mistake of thinking that Ballarat is "just a country town". These guys are punching way above their weight in so many areas, that people in Melbourne could really learn a lot from them.
Firstly, they had so many people there - mainly groups of students led by teachers. When we arrived there were already hundreds of them present, and so many more just kept pouring in that I suspect large dump trucks out the front were simply tipping loads of them directly through the front doors. This is a city and region that clearly understands and values education.
Secondly, they looked after us as if we were long lost members of their family -the type of long lost family member you actually like, as opposed to the one who shows up, eats all the chocolate-covered peanuts, drinks your last can of beer, steals your sandals, and then vanishes into the night for another 10 years.
Lastly, these people are so passionate and dedicated about everything they do. Part of the natural Australian charm is that we are very laid-back about most stuff that happens. Sometimes I think we'd stop for a drink and a chat if our house was burning down. And sometimes I think that as a nation, that makes us seem a little lazy. But it struck me that the people of Ballarat manage to keep all the classic Australian good cheer while simultaneously giving off a vibe that speaks of innovation, dedication and an unswerving confidence that they can bite off more than they can chew and... well... chew it.
Whatever alchemy is taking place in this city, I wish I could determine its archaic formula, bottle it, and sell it. I'd make a fortune.
Cheers

I was just online trying to find pics from the expo when I stumbled across this. I'm glad we could make you feel welcome! (My friends and I were the gals helping serve lunch so I'd feel slightly responsible if we lacked on the hospitality front.

Hi Hashi, thanks for the lunch! I had this amazingly huge and delicious plate of Green Curry, Chicken & Rice. I didn't need to eat for the next 24 hours
