Is it me or is every Assassin out there using the same cheesy confuse+weaken build?
I'm using it and it is super effective (see what I did there?) against pretty much anything that isn't itself.

Yeah, have to agree (though I would called it the weaken/poison build but it's the same thing)

I was rocking the Stealth/Strike look, and I enjoyed playing it more, but frankly I was gettingtired of having my ass kicked by these assasins and any templar worth his salt so I switched.

Does nobody play barbarians btw? I have yet to encounter one, and wondering how I would match up.

Super effective? Hardly. I just played against a guy using that build with 55% spell resistance. He didn't get me below half health. I welcome people trying to beat me with that.

Just wanted to note, I played against an assasin last night running Disarm/BlackJack/Stealth he would cast all three then shadowstrike me doing between 80-100 damage each time. He was using a yellow mana tonic + weaken to drain me, but I think if he used pressure point instead to lower my defenses it would have been more effective. I won, but only by the skin of my teeth and it was really just luck in my favour, Awesome build

That's B1styxWitx1t. I ran into him as well last night and went 1-1 with him. He's the toughest assassin I've faced.

Tried the companion spell Calm? Removes all status effects.

While I generally discourage denial/griefing builds, Assassins don't have a quick way to build mana, so try some counter denial. Have a look at the barbarian spell Slam, Dark Channels is great for stripping a colour from the board, and an Assassin probably won't be able to stop a Templar with Divine power from building up mana regardless.

Surely a barbarian with high weapon crit and skull damage can just damage said Assassin to death with very little mana needed.
