View Full Version : how can I turn off the battle hints?
I gave up on the PC demo in frustration with the "next move hint," the white arrow suggesting a possible move. It pops up way too fast, it's bright, distracting and doesn't go away, and the moves it suggests are often bad, e.g. would set up the opponent to inflict skull damage next round.
Please tell me there's some way to turn it off? Turning off tutorial help had no effect.
Opus,
No *official* way to turn it off. I agree, it tends to be distracting. It basically just suggests a random valid move. It's only useful when there is only 1 move left on the board and you can't spot it.
Now, there is an *unofficial* way to turn it off. Just click on any gem on the board as soon as it's your turn. At that point the hint will NEVER appear since the game thinks your about to swap gems.
Then when your ready to make your real move, just unclick the gem and click on the ones you do want to move.
Or, you can do like I do and drop the time limit down to 8 seconds in which case by the time the hint appears, you'll be already rushing to complete your move ;-)

Ah cool, that should work. Thanks!
I still think they should allow you turn it off in the config, though...

That arrow doesn't seem to be random. It has. . . preferences for easy to see 4 in a rows and wild cards. But it does NOT choose the best move even 50% of the time.
The problem with clicking on a random gem immediately (to disable the obtrusive and too-fast hinting system), is that I keep getting bitten by "invalid move" penalties. Who's bright idea was it to give a full 5 point penalty for clicking on an invalid gem if it's adjacent, instead of just rejecting the move (as is done when clicking on distant gems)?
Opus,
The 5 point penalty is for timed games where you take 5 points of damage if you run out of time or make an illegal move. It's a good thing to have in the game.
To prevent the invalid move penalties, click a 2nd time on the gem you selected. That will de-select it and prevent the move penalties when you select an adjacent gem with your next click.
